How much more evidence does the American Public need to come to the conclusion that it has a bunch of criminals in Washington DC. The last revelation that the CIA destroyed video tapes of interrogations of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay should be more then enough to bring an outcry from the citizens for a full outside independent investigation into all of our governments actions since the election of George Bush. Not only were these tapes illegally destroyed , the CIA also denied their existence and prevented any review of them to the Sept. 11 commission, the Justice Department and Congress. So in the name of you and me as our representatives our country has become the embodiment of the very same principles that so many of our dead veterans since the inception of this country have fought against. Do you condone Torture, Denial of Rights, Obstruction of Justice, a war once again Not Declared by Congress as is Constitutionally required. Secrets not only kept from the public, but to Congress, Illegal search and seizures, There have been four significant legislative infringements on American liberties over the past six years that have limited constitutional rights to free speech, freedom of association, freedom from illegal search, the right to habeas corpus, prohibition of cruel and unusual punishment, and freedom from the illegal seizure of private property. The First, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, and Eighth Amendments in the Bill of Rights have all been disregarded in the rush to make it easier to investigate people, put them in jail, and torture them if necessary, even if they are not guilty. President Bush has quietly claimed the authority to disobey more than 750 laws enacted since he took office, asserting that he has the power to set aside any statute passed by Congress when it conflicts with his interpretation of the Constitution. Among the laws Bush said he can ignore are military rules and regulations, affirmative-action provisions, requirements that Congress be told about immigration services problems, ''whistle-blower" protections for nuclear regulatory officials, and safeguards against political interference in federally funded research.
Bruce Fein, a deputy attorney general in the Reagan administration, said the American system of government relies upon the leaders of each branch ''to exercise some self-restraint." But Bush has declared himself the sole judge of his own powers, he said, and then ruled for himself every time.
''This is an attempt by the president to have the final word on his own constitutional powers, which eliminates the checks and balances that keep the country a democracy," Fein said. ''There is no way for an independent judiciary to check his assertions of power, and Congress isn't doing it, either. So this is moving us toward an unlimited executive power." In other words a DICTATORSHIP and Congress and the Supreme Court have sat idle and allowed this. At this point I would feel safer having my child’s High School Student Council run the government, at least they have a better understanding of the founding principles of our once great society. We MUST elect people that will rescind ALL the legislation that has been enacted in this past seven years!
